Jotunheimen 2012

2012-07-23 - Varberg-Gjendesheim
"Now it's just a top left, 'he said after yet another peak."

The best of Jotunheimen we would see, we would have to go Bukkelägret, Besseggen and up to northern Europe's highest peak - Galdhöpiggen. We would see high mountains darkened the skies at the sides, we would be forced to lie on the ground or lean far back until my back ached to see the stars at night and the clouds a day. We would get us up, traveling a thousand feet above the water, unnoticed. The twenty-July 3 it was time for me, Amanda, and my six traveling companions Elvy, Hans-Thore, Bert, Lena, Annica and Jonas.

We went from Varberg to Gjendesheim and along the journey we stopped in Sarpsborg soon after we cross the Norwegian border. After twelve hour drive, we reach Gjendesheim and we're here, a long desolate road carries us forward barren landscapes and views of the high mountains. Along the road's edge follows the sticks like spears and explains that they are there for the snow when winter comes. When we see the campsite on the right we turn left, we are only down to the harbor to see båttiderna.

After a little while, we can see how the fjord stretches out and the mountains thinking its pages. Clear blue water, crystal clear and turquoise water fills the fjord's bottomless depths, the most beautiful water you can look but you can put your feet in it so cramp your body from the cold.

We go after a while, back out to the winding gravel road and take us away to camp where we will spend our first night. The tent looked up in the attic, and then we sit on the ground to eat supper, hot dogs served and tired as we were, even just quietly sitting in a car, so we crawl into our sleeping bags for a while after seven.
