2018-07-15 - Snøhetta
At 08.00 we were ready for take off in Hjerkinnshus for further bus transport to Snöheim which is located 1474 meters above sea level. Large areas have previously been a shooting field for the Norwegian defense, and ammunition clearing is also being taken away in order for the area to return to nature again.

On the way to the cabin we saw a bunch of hairy mosk ox or as the Norwegians say, muskos. There were some people in the bus that was undoubtedly a little afraid. 200 meters of safety distance was important the hold. There are about 250 of them here in Dovrefjell and the first one where planted here in 1932.
Around 9.00 we were off. Nice to get started again. The top was visible all the time and the first leg was flat and easy. When the climb started, we felt again the rugged rocky terrain that usually meets us when we are hiking in Norway. Just below the peak we could use a small snow field for a more enjoyable walk.
Snöhetta is 2286 meters above sea level and qualifies for 32nd place in Norway.

The weather was clear and we could enjoy an almost cloudless sky. The top visit was finished with a few crispbread with mackerel in tomato sauce, salami, chocolate and a small, little well-chilled "jägermeister".

Once back in Snöheim at 15 o'clock it felt good to air the feet before the bus trip back. And sure, we even got to see some musk ox again!
In Hjerkinn, there was also a "cultural" visit to the old station building in a newly renovated state. Good to know is that the station is 1016.99 meters above sea level!

Now it was time for re-grouping towards western Jotunheimen. A lovely bath and a steady lunch on the kettle along the way made us a little more sparkling. 29 degrees showed the thermometer in the car.
We arrived Krossbu at 20 o'clock. Still really good weather. Krossbu was like before, who does not remember the glacier course in 1999. We put up the tent on the other side of the river and prepare tomorrow's exercise. However, when we later visit the cabin, it is no more than right to try on a local brew, and we can also see that the time has stood still inside of the building.
