2001-07-18 - Hjelle - Vettisfossen/Avdalen
We were tired yesterday and even more tired today. If i remember right, it took some time before we left Koldedalen. The plans for today was just some car movement. Before we left the area we explored Fondsbu and Eidsbugarden. The furniture in Eidsbugarden were impressing with it's old style. And a waffle with cream and jam made us ready to leave for Övre Årdal. We wanted to take it easy this day and to have a look at Vettisfossen which we had seen before from the top. The car was parked in Hjelle, the famous lav with heated floor and some showers. The route follows the gravel road up to Vetti Gard and it's a popular one with a lot of people from different contries. On our way up we also read some history on the signs. The entire Utladalen is very beautiful and have many waterfalls.

Vetti Gard is situated on a hill and you can also have a cup of coffee there. We followed the small path from the cabin a couple of kilometers to Vettisfossen. It was a good feeling to sit and watch the waterfall and just relax with some chocolate. After a while we had enough and began to walk back. When we saw the path up to the classic Avdalen some of us got bad feelings. Well, since our adventure in 1998 we have had some nightmares but finally we decided to take a new look at this place. It was about 30 minutes of walking to reach the cabin. In this lovely weather we were surprised and we all thought that this was really nice. Old huts with of course lovely views over the valley. Coffee was served by the norwegian girls who also offered us some salad. But then we saw that the salad was intended for the house pigs!

After a heavy dinner at the carpark we continued over the mountains towards Turtagrö which was burned down in wintertime. It was really sad to see, Turtagrö which contained a lot of history. We hope they will built it up again in the future.

Later in the evening we found a place for our tent a couple of kilometers before Sognefjellshytta. Food and drinks and some qualified talk ended a lucky day in Norway.
