2006-07-20 - Glitterheim - Memurubu
The final stage this year was from Glitterheim back to Memurubu and then by ferry to Gjendesheim. We started with a modest uphill for about an hour to the crest where we could see Russvatnet mirroring far below.

It was easy going all the way and after some small streams (perhaps we missed the bridge) we rested and prepared for a steady dinner. The sun shined so we had to use a lot of sun protection. After the god meal we filled all our water bottles and continued into the barren valley.

The path led us towards the route of Besseggen. After a last hard uphill we could enjoy the views of lake Gjende and Memurubu. Real nice! Now all we had to do was to follow the twisting path to Memurubu. It was well used and also dusty because of no rain for several days or weeks. Not so strange while the route to Besseggen is one of the most popular routes in Norway.

We stressed down to the ferry but we have red the time table wrong so we hade to wait for about one hour in the sun. But we wasn’t alone, all the freezer goods for Memurubu also stand in the sun. Wonder how many got sick of the tempered milk?

The evening was finished on the camp in more civil clothes and we could sum up this years hike. Lovely weather almost every day and a lovely route can’t be wrong. Annika got thrilled and Bert and Jonas were thinking of lying low with Norway for a while. But of course…you never know?
