From the camp we had almost mountains with glaciers in all direction and the peaks were reflected in the lake. We were lucky when we met a girl who had worked as a mountainguide for many years here in Sande. She told us how to make the route to Lodalskåpa in the best way. She knew the area well and that was good for us, she also told us that we could join a guided tour if we wanted. The time was 7 am and we were ready to leave. In Bödal we had to turn left into the small and curved gravel road up to Bödalssätra. From the carpark we had to walk about a kilometer to reach the unstaffed DNT hut. We walked some more kilometres on the flat ground with views over Bödalsbreens blue ice before it became uphill. The path was like a snake in the steep hill and finally we reached the notorious Brattebakken. Normally is this a steep, long and hard snow hill but this year there was very little snow. We saw the large stone pile at the edge of the glacier, this is the normal startpoint for hikers. We continued over Bohrsbreen with full glacier equipment and walked in southern direction where we could see a snow hill. The weather was chilly with fog and a cold wind. For the moment we couldn't even see Lodalskåpa. But the steep snow hill made as warm and sweat. The next glacier was more flat and we walked over the ridge and stopped at the little peak right before Lodalskåpa. It was still bad visibility so we decided to stop for a while and cook some food. After about an hour the fog began to disappear and we could see the powerful peak. The ice treks made a good work on the slippery hillside. It was really hot to pass the ridge and to see Kåpevatnet down to the left and Småttene down to the right. Another steep snow hill was waiting for us at the foot of Lodalskåpa which then changed into rock. We left the rope and the ice treks and climbed the last metres to the top. It was lovely to stand there and look around. We also noticed that two rope teams were arriving down at the ridge, it was probably the guided one. A huge swedish chocolate cake made us ready for the hike back home. The rain was now falling from a foggy sky. Down at the the snow edge we met the other rope teams, one of the guides was a swedish girl. Our conclusion is that at least one swede is needed for this advanced operation. Back again in the same track and our knees hurt in the long downhill path. The last kilometres were lasting but we manage to reach the car again. A shower and a sauna, what else do you need?. But we felt still a bit tired and the dinner didn't changed that. We thought anyway that it shouldn't be any problem to fall asleeep but there was a jumping carpet just outside our tent which was used by every young junior from the camp.   Picture comment   Picture (thumbnail) Picture 01c-1-1 We saw Jostedalsbreen from the base camp in Sande.
