Jostedalsbreen 2001
CommonMap 1  2
2001-07-22 - Briksdalsbreen
Today we thought that a visit to famous Briksdal with it's glaciers would be nice. The village is situated in a parallel valley compared to Sande. Briksdal is well know for horse and wagon transports, maybe you have seen it in tourist pamphlets.

We decided to hire a mountain guide just to test some ice climbing. The glacier was situated 45 minutes away. This area must be one of the most poular in Norway. It was really crowded with people and we had to cue on the path. The majority seemed to came from Asia, we noticed that from their video cameras.

Our guide Sindre (the wildest guide according to the other) made us ready for take off. We put on the ice trek and griped two ice axes. Then we walked out to the blue ice and hiked over cracks and other formations of ice. The grip from the ice trek were excellent and we stopped a bit uphill just before a steep. Sindre climbed up the hill and put an ice screw in the ice and made the rope ready for some climbing. Now it was time to force the wall. The ice axes were working hard in the ice and we managed to climb most of the wall. But the last bit was to hard for us amatuers. Now we have to spare some money and buy new ice axes and ice screws. Time flies when you have fun so we had to walk back again. The tourists had already gone so we didn't have to cue on the path back down. But we saw a lot of horses. When we reached Olden Aktivs cabin it was time for dinner on our classic stove.
