2002-07-15 - Gjevilvasshytta - Jöldalshytta
It was summer time again. The weather was really great in our hometown with sunshine and 25 degrees. The preparations for this year were not so good and we had to fix a lot of things the day before we left. We just felt the panic but when it came to equipment we felt that it was under control. It was the food that we had some problems with, the last hikes we used to dry some meat but not this year. Anyway, in the drugstore we found most of the things we wanted so we began our trip along the Swedish west coast up to the Norwegian border. As usual there were lot of traffic on the roads. We couldn’t even drive fast in Norway because of all speed cameras along the road.

The darkness came closer to us so we stopped at a camping place to get some rest. We also noticed that the tent worked well in the area between Hamar and Lillehammer. We jumped up early the next morning and continued the trip. Of course we had a stop at Otta and visited the great shop for outdoor equipment.

Gjevilvasshytta was visible in the late afternoon with a lovely view over the lake. We were really hungry so some sausages over the fire at the beach tasted well. And after that we had to pack and fix with our back packs. At the car park outside Gjevilvasshytta three girls from Örnsköldsvik had trouble with their car. French cars… that’s right! We hope they managed to get back home otherwise there must be empty on the streets!!

At five we were ready to leave civilisation. The weather was perfect for t-shirt and shorts. The terrain began with forest with no hills so it was a really good beginning. After some hour when the mountain terrain began we felt that it was vacation again and we had nothing else to think about. The last years we had only made day trips with smaller back packs so we had to fight a bit more this year. Food for eight days aren’t weightless. On our chocolate break we noticed that Magges back pack was broken in the frame. And shortly after that the sole of Berras shoe was loose. Perhaps we had to give up at next hut…

After we passed the river, Minilla, it was time to put up the tent. The dinner was great and during the night we heard some snore from a down sleeping bag…

The first accident. Magnus backpack crashed. Maybe it was broken before we left?
