Today's exercise started in Tokheim some kilometers north of Odda and we were planning to hike Holmaskjera which is situated on a rock out on the Folgefonna glacier. It was very sweaty to walk uphill.. The track was wide and we walked through spruce forest mixed with open areas. After 1,5 hours the real mountain terrain began and we also stopped at the newly build shield with lovely views down to Tokheim and Odda. The wind increase and some rain is falling. We walk further and pass a bridge at 800 meters above sea level. The path continue in the north side of Stöladalen and we are now in classic territory. The tourism, hundreds years ago, was really big in this area. A riding track was build here to facilitate for them. You could also ride over the glacier with horse and a sled. We reach the next wind shield at 1000 meters above sea level and use it for a food break. The terrain change characteristics here to a more stony one. On the glacier most of the snow was gone, it was ice everywhere. Of course we used our glacier equipment when we passed over the ice. Holmaskjera appears on a cliff in front of us, We just have to pass the last bit of the wet glacier. After 5 hours of walking, 1565 meters above sea level, we really enjoy the great views. You can almost see Fonnabu on the other edge, it will take about 2 hours to get there. Normally they have guided tours but it was cancelled because of the bad weather. The hut was nice and we noticed that it was built 1990. At 6pm it was time for us to walk down again. It was a long and heavy route, but downhill is much easier to walk so we reached the car park after 3 hours. Was it time for the Odda camp again? More wet socks…but we played some rounds of Yatzy to raise our mood.
