2018-07-16 - Turtagrø-Fannaråken
We woke up early and as usual we realize that the matress is lying by the side. Double-sided tape on the sleeping bag may be the solution? The weather looks even better today! A delicious porridge breakfast was eaten and we packed our backpacks. Our starting point for the day is Turtagrö, which is only 30 minutes away on twisting alpine roads. We were offered unbeatable views along the way.

Once in Turtagrö, a classic starting point for accessing the wild peaks of western Jotunheimen, the sun is already shining with full power. The walk begins quite easily with a smaller gravel road through the Helgedalen to later turn over to rocky and steep climb up to the top. We meet a lot of hikers who were lyrical after the overnight stay at the top cabin. It is not often the weather is this good.

Last time we were here was in 1998 and then there was snow on the plateau. Now we do not see much of that product. There have also been some new houses, what we get told, it's NRK together with Lars Monsen who will wander up here and stay overnight later this week.
Lunch snacks and even some coffee in the cottage before we snap some pictures of the scenic area. Once upon a time the cabin was a weather station located 2068 meters above sea level.

Descent is waiting. And as always, it feels harder to go downward than upward. When we reached the valley the heat was even hotter than before and the last leg became really tough. Luckily we could cool off with a Norwegian ice cream in the hotel before heading home to the base camp in Krossbu.
