2001-07-16 - Uranostind
It was an early wake up this morning. We had driven from Varberg and arrived here in Koldedalen not far away from Tyinholmen last evening. The road wasn't the best one and there were lot of stones. The most usual car choice was of course a Land Rover. We found a nice tent place at once with views over the lake Koldevatnet. From here we could see our first target Uranostind. It was a year ago since we tried our glacier equipment so we had to practice the whole evening (it's important that you train your partners so they can help you in case of an accident).

The back packs were glued on our backs and we began our first trip towards unknown peaks. We turned right just after the road bar and followed the marked path to Uradalsvatnet. This was an area that we knew, who can forget the hike three years ago? When we met the path crossing we just followed the southern path in direction towards Kvitevatnet. We had of course planned this tour carefully and acccording to experts we had to walk until we reached Kvitevatnet and then up to the ridge which leads the whole way to the glacier Uranosbreen. As usual we felt a bit tired this first day. You always need some days to get in shape for walking. But we reached the glacier edge and had a break with some chocolate before the equipment went on. The weather was still brilliant and we could see the entire glacier.

We began our walk through the snow with a classic formation with Magnus, the bloodhound first and then Berra as the second and Jonas as the last. The peak Urdaknatten was a mark that we sight to have the right direction. When we stood with Uranostinden to the left some climbers were visible on the steep hillside. We noticed some increase of the heart pulse and especially to Magnus who looked very tired. A left turn and we walked uphill through a rather steep hill with loose stones on the ground towards Slingsbytinden and Uranostinden. Now we had a flat ground to stand on but unfortunately the fog appeared and some snow. There was no chance to miss this oppurtunity so we thought that we might try to walk as far as we could and just see how the weather will be.

Now we had to face snow and stones and just below the peak we noticed some climbers. It was the same gang we saw on the way up. To reach the highest point we had to walk or rather creep on a narrow ridge. I remember that i thought that it's not a good idea to stumble. According to the climbers you should choose the eastern side if you stumble because you have a small chance to survive then but you'll get a hell of a ride on the snow. But we were lucky and even the sky became blue and we could shoot some pics with the camera.
